Granokuna is a design made by Yana Manta meaning ‘grains’, which are fundamental food staples in Kichwa/Andean gastronomy.

It also represents the connection of Northern and Southern Indigenous communities. Today, beans and corn grow all around the Americas. This pattern tells a story about Tostado (toasted corn), Porotos (beans), Choclo (cooked corn) and how these foods traveled through the mountains (the zigzags) and the rivers (blue lines and squares).

The Granokuna pattern is amongst new motifs that the Pacha Arts Family offers made and/or designed in Tkaronto, creating pieces based on our lineage of textile makers.
