These handcrafted baskets come from the region of Cotopaxi, Ecuador. The material from which these baskets are made is called “Totora”. Totora is a natural fiber that grows in water, and that is why it is only found at the lakeshores. This natural fiber is water resistant and its elasticity makes it the ideal material for making different kinds of baskets, floor mats for sitting, and bed mats. Once the Totora fiber dries up it gains the beautiful honey coloration and the strength necessary for daily use.
