In the kichwa language sinchi means strong and runa means person. Sinchi runa translates to strong human and is inspired by the many kichwas who have migrated throughout the world through the mindalae tradition of trade and commerce. Kichwa families abroad have formed their own communities internationally and this necklace reflects a new generation of kichwa or andean diasporic identity. It reminds us that even when we are far from our lands we adapt to our environments, but keep our traditions strong, just as those before us have done. This necklace is for anyone who is proud to keep their roots strong, no matter how far away from home.
