These scarves are made with recycled and remaining threads left from the making of other textiles such as fabrics for clothing or blankets. It results in a mixture of bright colour combinations that are entirely unique. Much like a bead soup! The daily task of collecting every little piece of material, reclaiming each thread results in a very soft textile with the use of a technique called "cardado".

"Cardado" is unique to the highlands, as it comes from a specific textile making technique using "cardas", which is a spiky flower that grows in the mountains and is used as a brush. To create the incredibly soft texture, many cardas are aligned together, held by two wooden pieces, creating a wide instrument to brush textiles. This process is manually done by hanging the textiles on a horizontal rope and brushing with two planks of cardas aligned using both hands.

Made by Kichwa people from Peguche, Ecuador, who are the master weavers of the region. Up on the highlands of the Andes, the members of this community are completely dedicated to the manufacturing of textiles and the agricultural activities.
